The pink lotus  symbolizes the purity and wonder of our awakened Buddha nature.   Buddha  means "Awakened One."  An image of Buddha symbolizes the perfected qualities of the awakened mind.  It serves as a powerful reminder to awaken the limitless compassion and wisdom which are our own true nature.  The stillness of the sitting Buddha evokes our own intrinsic serenity.  This painting depicts Buddha's inherent strength in the timeless posture of deep meditation.  This gesture of meditation  symbolizes perfect balance of thought, peace and tranquillity, and concentration on the Dharma.  It is also a comfortable position for the hands during seated meditation.  (3/24/10)
