The pink lotus  symbolizes the purity and wonder of our awakened Buddha nature.  Buddha  means "Awakened One."  An image of  Buddha symbolizes the perfected qualities of the awakened mind.  It serves as a powerful reminder to awaken the limitless compassion and wisdom which are our own true nature.  This painting depicts Buddha with his hands held in the Dharma-wheel-turning gesture (giving teachings).  Shakyamuni Buddha  began teaching after having achieved enlightenment.  He taught that all sentient beings possess Buddha Nature.  This realization brings hope and light to suffering beings.  (3/24/10)
